We are now in the midst of preparations for our 18th Annual Convention in September 2012. This time, our meeting will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The tremendous growth of our Society membership has compelled the Board to select a bigger and better venue, one that will be more conducive to learning and interaction.
The program conceptualized by Dr. Leowe Go promises to be interesting. Distinguished experts will discuss the pros and cons of doing an echocardiogram in various cardiac conditions. For more in depth discussions, simultaneous sessions will be held for our echo technologists.
Another Enhanced Echo Evaluation (E3) course will be offered on Sept 23, 2012 for cardiologists who would want to refresh their skills in echo interpretations.
Research paper and case presentations and the fun-filled Echobowl competition have been included in the agenda.
I enjoin everyone to join our meeting.
The 17th PSE Annual Convention was a huge success. Held from Sept 19 to 20, 2011 at the DAPA hall of the Phil. Heart Center, this year’s meeting had over 700 delegates coming from all corners of the countries. Members from as far as Mindanao and Baguio benefitted from the meticulously selected topics for the scientific and hands-on sessions.
Implementation of the Competency Guidelines was discussed and timetables were set for the members. Headed by the Dr. Norbert Lingling Uy, the Joint Accreditation Committee will set forth steps on how to get accredited by the PSE.
New members were inducted during the Convention. Dr. Edwin Tucay announced the results of the written and online examinations. While technical kinks initially beleaguered the online exams, the vigilance of Dr Myla Supe ensured a smooth process later on.
Our initial apprehensions about industry support were allayed upon seeing that we had the support of various partners. Although a little cramped, Dr. Joyce Jumangit managed to provide enough space for everyone. Our registration site was also well managed through her initiative with the Pacemaker Room providing ample and comfortable space.
This promises to be a busy year for the PSE. We have started with the Echo Workshops for the echosonographers last June 18, 2011 at the Bonaventure building. There will be 10 sessions with topics from the basics to the must-know and common diseases. However, for this year, it will be more frequent, almost weekly to end just in time for our annual convention in September 2011.
To respond to the clamor for a similar training outside of Metro Manila, a 2-day workshop in Chong Hua Hospital, Cebu City was held last July 16-17, 2011. Although the schedule was tight, the Faculty, headed by Dr. Edwin Tucay, delivered the lectures in depth and managed the hands-on sessions with similar focus. The Cebu group headed by Dr. Lerma Noval put together the necessary logistics for the event.
The lectures in Cebu were similar to the ones scheduled in Manila. The reason for this is to ensure that everyone who attended either venue will have equal opportunity to pass the written examination. Again the mechanism of this innovative simultaneous examination is being designed. Stay tuned for more news.
The E3 or the Enhanced Echo Evaluation is being continued. One was held in Summit Ridge Hotel, Tagaytay City last April 16, 2011. There will be second session on August 6, 2011 in Cagayan de Oro City. This is a case-based refresher course for Cardiologists who would want to update their skills in interpreting echo studies.
Preparations are being made for our annual convention on September 19-20, 2011 at the DAPA Hall of the Phil. Heart Center. There will be an E3 preconvention session on September 18, 2011.
With all of these events we are confident that all of our members will have every opportunity to gain knowledge, update their skills and remain active in our Society.
